What is Anime-Style Battling?
Simple! It’s there in the title! Battling Pokémon like they do in the anime. Instead of being cold, calculated, turn-based battling, anime-style battling allows for strategies involving the environment, unorthodox moves, combinations and so much more! When picturing it, think of how they battle in the anime!
Unlike most other ASBs, this one involves a small amount of roleplaying. Your roleplaying skills will actually come into question when battling. The more into it you get, the more detailed you play your character, the more likely it is that you will win your battle.
How to battle?
Well, to start off, you need to head to the Vs Seeker. The Vs Seeker is where trainers will post challenges, be them open or directed at a certain person, as well as where they will be accepted/rejected by the person being challenged. Once a battle is accepted, you’ll have to wait for a referee to accept your battle and then it will commence! A guide to setting/accepting challenges is up in the Vs Seeker, as well as a list of active referees.
How you actually battle is a tricky concept to explain and you’re much better off finding a battle and seeing how the participants do it. In short, one trainer will give out a set of three commands, then the other(s) will respond, and the referee will do a write up of what happened. However, the ASB has its roots set in Roleplaying. Referees and other trainers respond well if you consider the battle like a story, like you’re participating in an RPG. This usually includes a paragraph or two describing your reactions and other things that happened, as well as describing almost exactly how you want your moves to pan out (this is no guarantee that they will go that way, but the more descriptive, the less chance of the ref misinterpreting them). Please read what the referee has written in its entirety, as they are human too and may have missed something. More about this can be read in the Battle Guide.
